Student Responsibilities
By joining the Umoja community, you will gain a family of support services that will help you to achieve your goals, whether it is to obtain a degree or to complete a certificate program. In turn, we expect your participation in the Program to positively impact the Umoja community as well.
Key Characteristics of Umoja
- A Kswahili word for “unity,” Umoja is open to all LATTC students
- Umoja is a campus community dedicated to providing opportunities and support to students
- The Program’s focus is on educational success and professional development
- By way of specialized classes, activities and programming, Umoja students gain strong academic and career-based skills to ensure future success
Student Responsibilities
- Complete a program application and student contract
- Participate in the Coronation of Umoja and the Black Graduation
- Meet with a counselor twice per semester and complete a comprehensive student educational plan
- Enroll in and complete a two semester sequence of Counseling Guidance classes
- Attend required fieldtrips and/or cultural activities as prescribed by the program coordinator
- Participate in mentoring
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the California Community Colleges Board of Governors Fee waiver form (eligible students only)
