On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Los Angeles Trade-Technical College Foundation hosted a 100th anniversary Spring reception and time capsule reveal. The evening event was held at the college and welcomed more than 200 supporters, alumni, and college faculty and staff to the celebration.
Throughout the year, LATTC has been celebrating its milestone centennial anniversary. For 100 years, the college has played a pivotal role in preparing our region’s workforce in industries that drive the local economy. Last night’s Spring reception was a part of the college’s 100th Anniversary series of events and celebrations.
The evening featured impressive, stand-out food and beverage options prepared by the college’s award-winning Culinary Arts pathway, including savory shrimp ceviche, lamb meatballs, and sushi displays; as well as delicious sweets, including a large five-tier cake commemorating the college’s 100th anniversary.

The program began with a welcome from LATTC Foundation Board Co-Chairs Victor Reyes and Bonnie Tseng, followed by a reveal of the college’s time capsule.

A plaque marked the placement of the college's 50-year-old time capsule buried on May 27, 1976
In 1976, a time capsule was buried, marked by a plaque installed in the ground outside the college Business & Civic Engagement building on the occasion of the building's dedication. The plaque, along with word of the time capsule's presence passed down from generations of instructors and staff, have served as reminders throughout the decades.
The plaque reads:
“In dedication of this structure, the Business Science Building, and in Commemoration of the college’s Golden Anniversary and the Bicentennial of the United States of America on May 27, 1976, we have entombed a time capsule containing official documents, historical literature, photographs, and other artifacts reflecting the history of this institution and the city of Los Angeles with the expectation it will be unearthed at an appropriate time during centennial celebrations for this institution in the year 2025 AD.
Fred J. Brinkman
President”
The time capsule held a trove of historical artifacts, just as the plaque had indicated, including a full LA Times newspaper from the date the capsule was buried (a featured headline included, “How Press Handled Watergate Scandal”), Student Handbooks from 1973, and black and white photos of the colleges career and academic pathways. Highlights of the contents were read by Design & Media Arts Chair Joseph Guerrieri, Dean of Student Services Maggie Cordero, Student Specialist Kookie Williams, and Public Relations Manager Erin Yokomizo.
Stay tuned in the weeks ahead for a future news post detailing the time capsule contents.
