Identity: Queer/Pansexual

About Me: "I am a sociology professor who specializes in the study of gender, sexuality, race, and the body. I received my PhD from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and am an alumnus of the California Community College system. While I have a diverse research portfolio in examining identity construction in roller derby, social media activism through the body positivity movement, parents’ changing embodiment, and conservative women in political movements, my passion for teaching, supporting, and working alongside students is what brought me back to Community College. I primarily teach classes on gender (SOC 031), the family (SOC 028), social problems (SOC 002), and sexuality (SOC 021) with an emphasis on examining and challenging the social construction of hierarchies and inequality. I began teaching at LATTC in Spring 2024 and am excited to be working with other dedicated faculty and staff to ensure all students are able to not only survive but thrive in their educational and career journey. I enjoy making art (drawing and embroidery currently), reading fantasy novels and memoirs, and playing video games. If you want to chat about classes, transferring to a 4-year university, looking for general support, or just want to say "hi" please do not hesitate to reach out: khonactl@lattc.edu."
