Courses can be broken up into modules to better facilitate teaching and scheduling. A parent course must exist first. Courses are usually separated into 2-part or 3-part modules to allow students to take 1/2 or 1/3 of a course at a time, often with the understanding that the students may not complete the other modules. Modules use the same course number, but with letters indicating the modules (I.e., MATH 125 is divided into MATH 125A and MATH 125B). The units and hours in the modules must add up to the units and hours in the parent course (MATH 125 is 5 units/5 hours; MATH 125 A and B are 2.5 units/2.5 hours each).
Instructions for completing the Standard Module Request form (MS Word or PDF):
Submit the form and the attached course outlines to the Agenda Review Subcommittee to place the item on the Curriculum Committee agenda. See the Calendar for details on dates. If one module will be a prerequisite to another module (MATH 125A is a prerequisite to 125B), you must also complete the prerequisite validation forms for each.
