advanced class -- a course with two or more prerequisites. Advanced classes need a minimum of 8 students to prevent cancellation.
advisory course -- a course or set of skills which enhance a student's performance in a target course, but is not required for successful completion of the target course.
articulation -- process of creating agreements with 4-year institutions to accept courses to meet general education and major preparation requirements.
Bloom's Taxonomy -- a hierARSChy of action verbs used to describe course objectives.
Carnegie units (AKA Carnegie Rule or Carnegie hours) -- calculation of appropriate lecture and laboratory hours per unit.
corequisite -- a course or set of skills which are concurrently attained while enrolled in a target course.
course change request -- form used to change a course's data elements (units, hours, title, etc.)
course outline -- the official document outlining a course's objectives and content.
credit course -- a course (either degree applicable or non-degree applicable) for which students are charged $11 per unit and the college receives apportionment.
Curriculum Committee -- a subcommittee of the Academic Senate that approves new courses and programs, and changes to courses and programs.
curriculum revisions -- changes to an approved program.
degree-applicable -- courses which are applicable to an Associate degree
E-64 -- district administrative regulation on the approval of new programs.
E-65 -- district administrative regulation on the approval of new courses, and changes and additions to existing district courses.
Experimental courses (99's) -- a course which is offered quickly and can follow a faster approval process.
general education -- a broad list of courses designed to expose students to a variety of subject matter.
module -- a small course which is part of a larger, parent course.
noncredit -- a non-degree applicable course for which the college receives little apportionment. Noncredit courses are often free to students.
prerequisite -- a course or set of skills which are necessary for success in a target course.
program -- certificate or Associate degree major.
stand alone -- a course which is not required or recommended in an approved program.
target course -- a course which has a prerequisite, corequisite or advisory skill.
