Articulation is the process of working with the universities to accept our coursework in the transfer process. There are a few layers of articulation:
1. Basic transferability: the course is accepted for elective credit. The community college faculty determine CSU transferability; the University of California Office of the President determine UC transferability.
2. General Education: the course is accepted to meet the general education requirements at the university. The universities must make this determination before we can include a course on the CSU GE Breadth (Certification) or Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) list.
3. Course-to-course articulation: the course is accepted as comparable or in-lieu-of a course at the university. Often the university faculty make this determination, but they may include the community college faculty in a dialogue.
4. Program articulation: a set of courses are accepted as comparable or in-lieu-of a set of courses at the university. This works best with faculty-to-faculty discussions, especially in the vocational areas.
